Prismacolor Premier Soft Core, White 938: A semi opaque white which allows some of the base color to show through. This pencil should be hand-sharpened due to the extremely soft core.Ĭhinese White is not a true white- it has a sligh yellowish cast which is most noticeable when used near other whites or directly on white paper. We love the feel but it takes a bit of getting used to. This pencil has a soapy feel and lays down thick. This is a chameleon white which looks opaque on toothy paper but semi translucent on ultra smooth marker card stock. Derwent Drawing Pencils, Chinese White 7200: To date, this is the most opaque white pencil that we’ve found but it’s technically not a colored pencil, it’s a drawing pencil. Swatch your whites and frankly all your pencils to test their consistency and opacity before you start. If the white is very translucent, you can safely assume that most of their light colors will share the same translucent quality. For example, if the white from your favorite brand has a very opaque and sticky white, their soft pinks will have a similar sticky, opaque quality.
